Straight Outta Compton Rated R? BUT WHY?

A movie that I watched recently besides Ride Along 2 lol was Straight out of Compton (director version). It is rated R. I think this movie got that rating because of the language, sex scene, drugs, and overall message. Yes that movie was a true story and tells us the story of Dr. Dre, Eazy E, and ICE Cube and how they became a group and what they stood for, but because of the way that it happened it is not a family friendly movie. This movie is a message in my eyes. it shows us that some of the things that happened then are still very well alive today. On the link below I went and read a couple of critics reviews on the movie just to see how they felt about such a movie. One that stuck out to me was the A Critical Movie  and something from his review that shocked me was how shocked he was on the language that was said in the movie and how it made it to the theaters with that kind of language (use of the N word and the F word). I feel like that mindset that he/she was in is the same mind set the panel had when they decided to Rate the movie. There are numerous reason I FEEL like this movie made it to the big screen but the reason pertaining to the topic would have to be (as discussed in class) only a limited audience was going to see the movie anyways. Do i feel like this movie is appropriate for a 8/9/10 year old? NO, BUT do I think it could have been PG 13? YES! but let me tell you why! Just like we discussed in class just like music, movies have a meaning as well. If they had of G rated the movie the overall message would not have been seen. To me watching the theater version and the directors cut version there was a difference. If pre-teens can listen to movies that have the N word or the F word seeing a movie with that same language TO ME is no different. Because of the society we live in and how BIG the media is there is no point in sugar coding the truth. I feel like that's whats wrong with society today everybody wants to sugarcoat the story. But hey that's just me.

Advertisements Get me EVERY TIME!

So of course on this free day we have I have consumed NOTHING but TV and Social Media OMG!
So a couple of products that have stood out to me on TV are the Advertisements for weight loss. Ive seen numerous of commercials but for some reason its almost like because they know everyone is in this weekend they want to show nothing but weight loss products. Like have y'all seen them or is it just me?

The Advertisements are almost insulting if you ask me. They are stressing it so much to the point where I kinda want to start doing crunches while i blog lol. They make it seem like you need to be working out or you wont be happy. One commercial is so intense I think they were aiming for men. Most of these workout commercials are all females. They have the females doing all the work, as if all we do is sit on our asses all day and need to be working out.

My response to these advertisements is ^@%@$^ lol. Even though I drink my flat tummy tea and wort of work out, this blog makes me a hypercritical lol. I really think that the media tries to portray this everybody needs to be thin in order to fit in idea. I hate that society makes us women especially feel as if the way we look is never good enough. UGH

I think these advertisements tie into the video watched in class on *likes* because, if you think about it, we are told to look a certain way in order to be *Liked*. all these advertisements are suppose to get you down and out about the way you look, motivate you to work out and get thin, then show the world so you can fit in. I think its a bunch of BS. In the video they talked about how certain pictures and how if they dont get alot of likes we take them down because we think people don't like them because they only get 1-10 likes. I am very guilty of that so I could defintely relate. I think society especially the new generation and those to come need to change our mindset. Being comfortable in your own skin should be how we think, but media is so big and so persuasive its almost impossible to tell someone they are cute nowadays without them thinking your joking.

But I could go on and on.
Love you for you!
You are beautiful/handsome don't let anyone tell you different

Media and Women

The media has a major affect on women. to me I think that the general message of the media to women is that we are a joke. To me the image they have of the way women should look is a joke. There are more thin women in the media then there are thick or big girls. If there are big women in the media they are playing degrading roles. Like the movie precious (watched that over the weekend). This movie is about a big girl who is raised in a rough area and mother who doesn't really care for her well being. Precious is portrayed to be this nasty, always eating and just sloppy female. To me that is degrading. On top of that she is an African American female. I think they give certain roles to certain people based on the race (sometimes) because if you think about it the movies (pitch perfect & tammy) those heavy set women are funny and relatable. But in all those films named the one thing they have in common is the overall picture that you get from the big girls on screen. Women are a joke.

To me I think that media and sociology play hand in hand an that there can be a lot of possible theories (if not already there) that come from media and its affect on society. Media is nothing but technology and that is advancing everyday. I think that our world our society is some what corrupt by media. Everything is accessed via media. Schools are now accessed through media. We have classes that are taught on sites that you can only access if you have a computer or phone. To me because media plays such a big role it creates a utopia almost. its like it shows you the finer things in life and make things that are "outside the norm" seem like its so wrong.

Since way back when, women have been looked upon as weak, and that they have to listen and obey. The media still portrays that way if thinking to a certain extent. There are some goods to social media and women though. Like we are starting to get more roles in films and TV shows. You are starting to see more equality in the roles on TV. Both men and women are working and taking care of the home and children (if they aren't having issues). I am hoping that as technology advances, so will the way society looks at women and women look at themselves change.

"Fat Amy" is the funny big girl in the movie who it seen eating sloppyiy at one point in the movie.

Tammy is the big girl in the movie that has no job and just doesn't care about life and cannot take care of herself
and this is precious the African American big girl that gets portrayed as a sloppy eating big girl from the projects.
